Its towns are simple, its countryside sincere. Just what Sophie and Philippe came all the way from Belgium for, a quiet yet inspiring wedding in a petite village in Umbria. Town of choice is Città della Pieve, a stone-clad wedding destination that is so authentically peaceful you’ll want to stay there forever.
Photographer Stefano Nannucci tells the story: ‘I was so happy to shoot Sophie and Philippe’s wedding, a few years earlier I was hired by Sophie’s sister Muriel for her wedding in Italy, too! It was great seeing everyone again and also meeting Muriel’s little boy, I really felt like a member of the family.
Philippe was a nervous wreck on the wedding day and he couldn’t hide it! The Italian civil ceremony took place in the ancient town hall in downtown Città della Pieve where bride and groom tied the know legally and then strolled through town with their guests. A vintage Fiat 500 took them back to their villa … well almost, a little stop along the way … (I guess Philippe was relaxed by now!).
Villa Pulciana is an old stone residence perched on top of a hill looking out on the Umbria landscape. Simple beauty and sincere peace and quiet. An excellent Italian reception meal was served as the sun set, then guests surprised the newlywed couple with a reminiscent slide show of the best moments of their lives from childhood up to their I do’s. Even better moments are yet to come for this happy couple married in Umbria, Italy!
