How much does a destination wedding in Italy really cost?  Is it more expensive than a wedding at home?

It’s kind of like asking ‘how much does a wedding dress cost?’ or ‘How much does a honeymoon cost?’  It all depends on what you want.

There’s also a rumor that a wedding in Italy is more expensive than a wedding back home ….

In order for you to decide for yourself, we’ll tell you how much things cost in Italy and how much they cost at home in the US, according to Weddings Magazine 2017 Bridal Budget.

We’ll be looking at the following Standard Wedding Day Services:

Stylists for bridal hair and make up
Reception meal, wedding cake, and rentals
Florals and decor rentals
Photographer/Videographer
Music
Wedding Planner

STYLISTS

Bridal hair and makeup in Italy averages 500 euros AT YOUR LOCATION depending on what the bride wants done and how complicated it is. It is not unreasonable for a team of stylists to charge for travel since most of the locations in Italy and especially Tuscany are remote. The charge for bridesmaids and extra girls averages 60 euros per service (hair or makeup) and will vary depending on the kind of styling required, whether a blow out or updo.

Weddings Magazine: onsite $200-$400 per bride service, $40-$90 per bridesmaid service.

RECEPTION

A wedding in Italy will take you through a food experience unobtainable anywhere else in the world. But we are looking at costs, not quality, and while the costs will ultimately depend on where your wedding is held and what your final menu choice is, the average catered meal ranges from 100 to 200 euros per person, including a hefty welcome cocktail with stations and passed hors d’oeuvres, 2 pasta dishes, a main course and a side dish, wine, espresso, limoncello, bubbly for toasting, and a traditional Italian wedding cake assembled on the spot LIVE right in front of you and your guests. Italian caterers also provide reception set up with a choice of linens, table settings, and staff uniforms INCLUDED IN THE MEAL COST. Unbeatable.
Locations where in-house catering is offered may charge less than 100 euros per person for the meal however, they can not offer the wide variety for table settings that a catering company can.

Weddings Magazine: while in Italy the standard wedding meal includes hors d’oeuvres and a 3 course meal, WM priced items separately, hors d’oeuvres $19-$72 per person, seated dinner $18-$85 per person, cake average $4 per serving, which gives a range for an undefined menu of $41-$161 per person RENTALS AND BEVERAGES TO BE ADDED.

FLORALS

A rose is a rose is a rose … except on your wedding day! Flowers for weddings are specially ordered, selected upon arrival, and carefully handled or wrapped to create a beautiful arrangement. Again, while we are not talking about quality but only about costs, there is definitely added value when an Italian is doing the styling.
A bridal bouquet averages 100 euros with in season florals, open end stems, satin ribbon wrap.  Bridesmaids’ bouquets will cost half of that.

Weddings Magazine:  between $75 and $400 for a bridal bouquet … flowers DO matter!  Lily-of-the-valley stems are $5 each and you need around 100 of them to make a bouquet.  Their season is short, May is their month so any other time during the year will cost you extra.

Photographer/Videographer

Weddings Magazine:  budget DJ $800 to $1,200 and live band between $2,000 to $4,000. Even Steven.

Wedding Planner

The most simple calculation of all, full-service wedding planning fees typically represent about 10% of the entire wedding budget.  Some wedding planners charge an additional fee on any services they manage directly, such as floral design, rentals, lighting, etc.  They will also charge to mange extra events like rehearsal dinners, day-after picnics or brunches, any tours or excursions.

Weddings Magazine: from $500 to $7,000
