When you think ‘cake by the ocean’ for a wedding in Italy the first place you think about is the Amalfi Coast, right?!  Hair-raising cliffside drive and jaw-dropping deep blue Mediterranean waters … MAMMA MIA PIZZA!  BUT, there are other coastal locations that are just as beautiful and maybe even more fun 😉

Did you know there are islands off the coast of Tuscany?

The biggest one is Elba island and besides being close to the coast – ferries from Piombino take only 45 minutes – there is an airport where low cost European airlines fly into during summer: Silver Air offers daily connections from Florence, Pisa, Milan, Skywork flies from Bern, Switzerland.

There is plenty to do and see on Elba:  Rent vespas and drive all the way round the island, visit the ancient port and open market, plus beach-gelato-beach-gelato!  See InfoElba for more options on how to get around on the island and what to do once you’re there.

A fave wedding location on theTuscan island is the five-star luxury resort Hermitage Elba.  Hotel and bungalows lined up on an exclusive cove that looks like a resort in the Caribbean, but with Italian class and food.  A wedding on Elba Island is perfect in April, May June or September. July and August are reserved for VIP patrons who have been coming back to paradise for years … who can blame them.

Weddings at the Hermitage Elba are massive!  There are infinite spaces for your wedding ceremony and reception, plus the Maitù restaurant is set away from hotel rooms so you can party until dawn.  It’s right on the beach and looks straight out on the sunset … absolutely stunning …

An extensive lawn area is perfect for a symbolic ceremony and welcome cocktail.

I keep hoping we’ll eat CAKE BY THE OCEAN!
